Q: WHAT IS LIFE COACHING?
A: LIFE COACHING, as defined by the International Coaches Federation (ICF) is “partnering with individuals in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performance and enhance the quality of their lives. Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual needs. The coach’s job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.”
Q: WHY HIRE A THRIVE! LIFE COACH?
A: Some coaches are about doing, getting things done. Some coaches focus on the structure of an organization. THRIVE! life coaches are about you. We help you reconnect with the deepest part of you and clear out the past clutter of life challenges so you can find you own motivation, answers and way to connect with life and the groups in which you live.
THRIVE! COACHES know that they do not have your answer, but you do. They know they can help you realize and live it. Your coach is trained to listen, ask questions and see things in your life from a neutral, non-judgmental, positive perspective. They listen to you with a few basic questions in mind and heart: “What is right with this person? What are they learning? What do they value? What is their way of moving through change? What are they saying they want next?”
Your coach helps you hear your authentic desire, understand your ability to listen to, love and believe in yourself . This will allow you to find the inspired actions that you cannot help but take.
Experiences and knowledge gained during life coaching sessions enhance current challenges and life well beyond time spent coaching.
Q: HOW IS COACHING DIFFERENT THAN COUNSELING?
A: A coaching relationship is based in present time. It’s main benefit is bringing awareness to what is right with you and how you can live a life you love from the unique (and universal) experiences and abilities you you have. Your coaching sessions will focus on how you can connect with others, given their unique and universal personality traits and tendencies. Instead of examining the past, we acknowledge it as an experience that got you to where you are today. Your coach might help you understand what you learned from the past and realize what you can now live because of what you learned. Coaching is about learning and growing. You coach will help you learn new, empowering ways to look at yourself, others and life so you can respond to what is from your power and thrive.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?
A: You need not prepare or bring anything, but you can if you wish. Your coach will begin with a few guidelines that make your time together feel like a safe space to learn. (Yes, learning, listening within and growing makes people feel vulnerable. This is a normal human reaction to change.) With these guidelines, it is infinitely easier to find new solutions to old, re-occurring challenges.
The life coaching process is client-driven. Your coach will provide useful tools and strategies to incorporate into your life to bring about positive change.
Your coach will help you get clear on the desired results you would like to experience. Sometimes the result is to simply feel alive again or to know what it is that you want. Other times the result can seem immense, like wanting to change a career or get along with an estranged mother. After (and while) getting clear on your desire, your coach will listen, provide positive feedback, help you hear yourself and see your part in things so you will find your power, your new “I can!” response to your challenge. Each session ends with a request, something you know you can and now are ready to do to move yourself forward. Between sessions, you will learn, grow and respond to life in new, more beneficial ways. In your subsequent sessions, your coach will help you see your forward movement and what you are doing to cause it. Many clients report things happening very easily after the clarity of a coaching session. Your coach will help you continue with the clarity of what you are learning, understanding and desiring as you roll forward in a life you love.
Q: HOW LONG DO COACHES AND CLIENTS MEET?
A: A typical session lasts one hour. A typical coaching relationships last from one month to years. It’s common to begin with a package of eight sessions. Usually the first session involves setting an intention for your work and clarifying your goals. From there it’s common to focus on acquiring skills and tools for awareness, acceptance and change. Buying a block of sessions is more cost effective than buying one session at a time. Change takes consistency and time. Coaching is an individual experience and no two clients are alike. Some people choose to meet once a week for eight weeks. Others meet twice a week in the beginning and taper off. Many of our clients utilize our services for many years.
Your coach will help you structure coaching (and complementary services) that work for you. Life is change and coaching makes it easier, faster and more fun and loving.
Q: SHOULD I CHOOSE AN APPRENTICE, EXPERIENCED OR MASTER LIFE COACH TO SUPPORT ME?
A: All of our coaches are capable of supporting you in making the positive life changes you desire. We recommend finding a coach that resonates with you. If you read a coaches’ profile and feel “This coach can help me!” that is the one we recommend you start with. If you are uncertain which coach to choose, please contact us. We will be happy to recommend a coach we feel is the best fit for you.
Q: HOW DOES RELIGION FIT INTO THRIVE! COACHING?
A: Religion, God, Spirituality fits into coaching how ever you want it to fit in. Our coaches are trained to work within your belief system. Coaching is about supporting you in the life you want to be living. We know that your belief system is personal and very important, as are your desires. As coaches, we rely on a Higher Power to guide our coaching. We allow the language of this Higher Power to be yours. If you come from a strong Christian, Spiritual or agnostic belief system and you would like to be coached from that perspective, please let your coach know and your belief system will be addressed and honored. Otherwise, universal or no terms will be used. Coaches with strong, defined belief systems will state so in their profile.
Q: WHY IS LIFE COACHING SO EXPENSIVE? HOW DO I AFFORD IT?
A: While life coaching is not a necessity, like food, clothing, shelter and water, it does address a fundamental human need: love. Loving is a part of our birthright, yet over time we are taught and then practice and master some non-beneficial habits of where, when, who and what to love first, all out of the desire to “do it right”. The habits we develop we often pass on to our children. Coaching will help you learn healthy habits of loving yourself so you can learn, grow and love others from your new strength. Establishing healthy habits of responding to ourselves (our emotions, desires, actions and relationships) takes energy, effort and time. At THRIVE! we have put countless hours of energy and effort as well as time and money into providing a space to powerfully support you in being all that you can be. Life coaching is a business.
If funds are an issue, we have apprentice coaches who will meet with you for one session for free and two more sessions at a considerably reduced rate.
We offer group coaching, four weeks of support, at less than a one-hour weekly session rate.
When you realize the importance of investing in yourself with time, money and effort , you are truly ready for some breakthrough positive changes that will ripple into your family and community over time. The results are invaluable.
Q: Can I bring my spouse/child/friend to a session?
A: Yes. Coaching works very well in groups. Your coach will provide guidelines so you can learn to listen to and support each other in constructive ways. We often meet with couples, families, parent and teens and divorced couples who need to co-parent.
Gathering a group of people you spend time with for group coaching is a powerful way to build and sustain relationships that will provide natural, real, sustainable support for each other for a lifetime.
Q: Can coaching really help me? How do I know if coaching is for me and what if it doesn’t work?
A: These are questions we understand. There is little more frustrating than trying and trying all kinds of different things with no results. Time, money and hope gets lost and discouragement builds.
We believe there is only one answer to ‘How can I solve this problem?!!”. The answer is yours. Only you have it. We believe in our ability to help you find it, hear it, trust it and live it, safely, without losing all the things you love. So, if you are uncertain, we recommend starting with a 15-minute complimentary session or free session with an apprentice coach or simply schedule a session with an experienced coach knowing we offer a money back guarantee. After your first session or class, if you find our service is not beneficial for you, it will be free. (As of today, no one has needed to take us up on this request!)
FAQ’s ABOUT THE WISDOM OF LIFE™ PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT AND LIFE COACH CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Q: People tell me I could be a life coach. How do I know if this is true?
A: A life coach is someone who loves to help others make positive changes in their lives. It is an inherent passion. If people come to you for support and you love to give helpful feedback, you are one of us. Life coaching is a natural ability. Training helps you overcome some of the inherent challenges caring people, natural life coaches, experience: getting drained, carrying other’s challenges, worrying about whether they will do what you know they need to do or worrying that you said too much, too little or something hurtful. Our training helps you overcome these natural care giving, service based challenges.
Q: What is the personal empowerment portion of this program about. I know and have studied a lot. Is this for beginners?
A: We believe the only way you can inspire others is your way. Our training gives you “training wheels” to spot light yourself and fine tune, trust and develop your way. That is why it is important to begin training with looking closely at yourself; realizing your gifts and how you move through your own challenges, and how you already inspire others. In this portion of the program, participants experience personal growth while beginning to develop their curriculum; their way of supporting others.
All students are honored for what they all ready know. We are all natural students and teachers for ourselves and each other during this time.
Q: I am not sure what, who or if I want to coach but would like to learn this anyway. Does that make sense?
A: YES! Time and time again we hear our students say, “Everyone needs to learn this!”. Many times the reason people begin the program is not the reason they leave with. The resulting reason turns out to be something better than they thought. Curiosity, desire and inspiration are a great reason to sign up. More clarity will unfold by trusting and stepping forward into the unknown.
Q: Do you have a payment plan?
A: You can pay for your training in three installments. One hundred dollars is due at registration. Eight hundred dollars is due before classes one and seven. Seven hundred ninety five is due before class thriteen. Payment in full is due before certification certificate is awarded.
Q: Do you help us with the business portion?
A: You will learn business basics, like setting up an LLC, connecting with clients, etc. During the last eight weeks of the class we work on the professional aspects of life coaching as well as continue with the momentum of the curriculum in other areas. Upon completion of the program, you may continue with our optional apprenticeship opportunities or monthly Coaches Success Circles.
Q: Is this program accredited by the ICF or IAC?
A: There is not a standard accreditation board for life coaches in the United States. You could call yourself a coach today and begin a business.
We recommend getting the education, training and experience you need to feel comfortable in saying who you are. Our program is designed to do that and help you continue to develop your coaching skills throughout your life time. We believe that with the desire and foundation we provide, you will continue to learn, develop and grow in all your coaching abilities and expressions as long as you desire.
You will learn core competencies of life coaching as defined by the ICF. You will learn, understand and develop your unique coaching platform, practice coaching in class, receive positive feedback from your peers and begin coaching outside clients. You will also learn strategies to continue to learn and grow as a coach. Your coaching experience will develop into a master level with your desire, time, experience and practice. Our curriculum has allowed many of our coaches to do that.
To be a coach accredited by the ICF or IAC, you need to fulfill a set of arbitrary requirements set by each organization. After researching these groups, we have found this step to require time, money and effort that distracts from the focus and energy of being a coach and therefore did not choose to have our school accredited by any of the many outside accrediting organizations. To support our decision, we found that graduates of an ICF accredited school need to fulfill another set of stringent requirements including completing 100 hours of coaching before they gain their first level of ICF accreditation.
If you want or think you might want ICF accreditation after completing our program, it is available through their portfolio requirements.
IAC accreditation is available through steps found in this link.
